A MYRAID OF FLYING CRANES

This work presents the image of a formal furisode kimono transformed into a striking graphic composition. Set against a deep black ground, a vast flock of cranes sweeps across the surface, their white bodies and red crowns sharply illuminated against the darkness. 

The crane, a symbol of longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture, carries auspicious meaning. Created during the late Meiji to early Taishō era, the composition reflects a moment when traditional motifs were rendered with renewed clarity and graphic strength. Presented as an artwork, the garment’s image becomes more than ornament, offering a meditation on movement, symbolism, and the elegance of restraint.
